We maintain four research apiaries with approximately 25 colonies per apiary. These are based at Teagasc Oakpark, Carlow. Additional queens are bred, using the Apidea system at a mating apiary in County Wexford. The research colonies are maintained by Dr Mary Coffey (University of Limerick) and Danny Keogh (Beekeeper, Teagasc)
Honey is extracted after the oilseed rape and again in early Autumn
Colonies not in trials are treated with Apiguard in Autumn and ApiBioxal (vaporization method) in December.
